Franz Adam Landvogt (born March 3, 1889 in Rockenberg ; † October 5, 1953 ) was a pastor in Mainz .

Life

From 1928 to 1951, after having worked in Darmstadt and Mainz, he was pastor of St. Christoph during the Great Depression . In 1945/46 he was also appointed parish administrator in St. Emmeran and St. Peter . The fears and persecutions of the National Socialist dictatorship, the loss of family members and the trauma of many people who had been injured during the war shaped him.

souvenir

He found his final resting place in St. Peter. In 2003 the artist Karlheinz Oswald created a head bust of Pastor Landvogt on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death, which can be seen in this church.

In 1955, the Mainz prelate Adam Gottron published a book about the life and work of Franz Adam Landvogt. In the course of researching the church archives, it was found that especially in the 1960s under Bishop Albert Stohr , as well as under Hermann Cardinal Volk , an examination was being made as to whether a canonization process could be initiated. In the absence of a real fama signorum , d. H. the reputation of miraculous activity, which could not be evidently proven, was not pursued further in the formal proceedings, not dissimilar to the case of the great Mainz social bishop Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler (1850–1877).

Pastor Landvogt himself prohibited everything in his will that could later be used to support such a procedure. He decreed:

I commend my soul to the mercy of God. May my dead body be buried in a simple manner. Large obituary notices should be avoided, including photos on death pictures and a memorial speech. Holy masses and prayers for my soul are the most important.

Karl Cardinal Lehmann stated on the occasion of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of his death:

There are also gifted priests in our time, who often exercise widely recognized activities in the discretion and secrecy of their work. Since I've lived in Mainz, I have come across the name of Pastor Franz Adam Landvogt again and again.

In 2007 a street in his birthplace was named in his honor.

Pastor-governor help

In 1977 a group of committed young people from the parish of St. Boniface came together to help the poor. The story of Pastor Landvogt-Hilfe begins on February 15, 1979 with the opening of a clothes and furniture store on Dagobertstrasse in Mainz. The charitable association Pfarrer-Landvogt-Hilfe in Mainz, founded in 1981, continues the work of Franz Adam Landvogt. Its founding member and chairman, Guido Meudt , was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in 2006 at the instigation of Malu Dreyer for ongoing social commitment .

The association, which is largely based on voluntary work and relies on donations, is a corporate member of the Caritas Association Mainz and is actively supported by around 75 people.
