Justification for the coat of arms: The representation in the two fields is a linden tree and a fountain. The wave bar stands for a stream. The linden tree is included in the symbolic meaning on the coat of arms, as it was several hundred years old and was known in Ettinghausen. This no longer stands today, but is still on the coat of arms. The fountain is the source of the Ahrbach , which rises in Ettinghausen. The wave beam described above is the Ahrbach, which also runs through other villages.

Energy and waste disposal

In 2008, Hese Biogas GmbH built the waste fermentation plant (AVA) Ettinghausen. The plant is located away from the residential development on Kreisstraße 76 near Bundesstraße 8. It extracts biogas from organic waste and residues and converts this into electricity and heat using combined heat and power plants . A fund bought and operated the facility without success. The operating company filed for bankruptcy and shut down the plant in February 2012. In 2015, Wiesbaden-based ABO Kraft & Wärme AG bought AVA Ettinghausen, ramped up biogas production and had the plant fundamentally rebuilt and expanded by the Wiesbaden project developer ABO Wind while it was still in operation . The facility has had a waste processing facility since 2017. There, the organic waste is unpacked, among other things, and heated to 70 degrees Celsius for at least an hour in order to kill bacteria that are questionable from a hygienic point of view. This means that the plant can now process waste for which stricter regulations apply. The operator expects an economic improvement from this.
