Water quality
Today the Ahrbach serves as a receiving water for the adjacent open- cast clay pits Kannebäckerland . The surface water is pumped into the stream so that it is colored white almost all year round by the clay minerals. In addition, there appears to be another problem associated with these discharges. In a letter from the Structure and Approval Directorate North from 56003 Koblenz under file number 312-608 to the fishing rights of the Gelbach (into which the Ahrbach flows) and the Ahrbach, it says: "According to the test results now available, the PCDD / F levels were and dl-PCB in the muscle meat of the river trout from the Gelbach with lengths above the minimum (28 to 35 cm total length) with values between 7.49 and 13.87 pg / g. The legally permissible maximum level is 6.5 pg / g. .. The substances mentioned are suspected of being mutagenic, teratogenic and carcinogenic. " and "The analysis results show a critical pollution of the examined species not only in the Gelbach, but also in the tributaries, although this is relatively inconsistent and does not reflect the pollution of the suspended matter evenly."
Previous economic importance
There are several watermills on the Ahrbach . At Boden the Bodener Mühle and the Wiesenmühle , at Ruppach-Goldhausen the Goldhäuser Mühle and at Heiligenroth the Schlatmühle , the Sabelsmühle and the ruins of the Hermoltermühle . Today (2015) nothing more of the Hermoltermühle (Hermoldermühle) can be found, the ruins have been removed. The Sabelsmühle is now used as a house with horses. The Mühlbach belonging to the Sabelsmühle no longer exists. The Schlatmühle is different: the building is a listed building and has been lovingly renovated by the current owners. The old mill fixtures in today's apartments have been preserved.
