The Breitenbachtalsperre nature reserve is located in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate . The Breitenbachweiher is located in the municipality of Waigandshain .

The approximately 47 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1988 , extends northeast of Emmerichenhain , a district of Rennerod . The B 54 runs to the west and the B 255 to the south . The area in which the Breitenbach dam with about 11 hectares of water is located is traversed by the Breitenbach , a left tributary of the Nister .

The protection purpose is the preservation of the landscape area with its water surface, its shallow water zones and surrounding wet meadow areas as a location of rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened in their existence and as a habitat for threatened wild animals.
