The Schimmelsbachtal nature reserve is located in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 75 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends northeast of the local community of Herschbach . The B 413 runs to the west, the L 292 state road to the east and south and the B 8 to the east . The area is traversed by the Schimmelsbach, a left tributary of the Holzbach .

The protection purpose is the preservation of the wetland as a location of rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened in their existence , as a habitat for animal species threatened and for scientific reasons.
