The Level Europe GmbH (formerly Anisec Luftfahrt GmbH ) was an Austrian low-cost airline headquartered and based on the Flughafen Wien-Schwechat . It was a subsidiary of the International Airlines Group (IAG) and operated on behalf of Level . After operations had to be completely stopped in Europe due to the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March 2020, it filed for bankruptcy on June 19, 2020.
history
Anisec aviation
The company was founded in November 2017 in Vienna as Anisec Luftfahrt GmbH. It is a subsidiary of IAG and was founded to take over the bankrupt Niki . But in the bidding process for Niki , IAG and its cheap subsidiary Vueling were booted out. But IAG did not want to give up the plan for an airline at Vienna Airport and aircraft were ordered for a take-off in Vienna. On July 3, 2018, Anisec / Level started a promotion for all 14 destinations and flights from Vienna between July 17 and September 30, 2018. During this period, 50,000 seats are available for just 1 cent per ticket. The promotion was controversial. The first flight took place on July 17, 2018 from Vienna to London Gatwick. On the same day, IAG boss Willie Walsh announced that the fleet in Vienna should grow to 30 aircraft.
Level Europe
At the end of December 2019, Anisec Luftfahrt GmbH was renamed Level Europe GmbH.
At the beginning of May 2020, the IAG submitted an offer to the Austrian federal government that in the event of Austrian Airlines insolvency in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic, Level Europe could take over long-haul flights operated by Austrian Airlines. The federal government then confirmed the offer and stated that it would seriously examine it. On June 18, 2020, Level Europe Managing Director Frank Glander announced that the airline will file for bankruptcy on June 19, 2020. The airline was hit hard economically by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe. A continuation of flight operations is not planned.
