The Nisteraue nature reserve is located in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 20 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1986 , extends west of the local community of Unnau , directly on the L 281 state road , which runs past the eastern edge. A little further away, the L 288 runs to the west and the L 293 to the east. The area The Nister flows through it in a north-south direction.

The purpose of protection is the preservation of the nest floodplain as a habitat for rare wild plants that are threatened in their existence and as a location for rare bird species that are threatened in their existence.
