The Holzbachtal nature reserve is located in the Westerwaldkreis in Rhineland-Palatinate .

The approximately 45 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1990 , extends east of the local community of Herschbach . The state road L 292 runs to the north and the L 305 to the west. The Holzbach stream flows through the area.

The protection purpose is the preservation of the wetland as a location of rare wild plants and plant communities that are threatened in their existence , as a habitat for animal species threatened and for scientific reasons.
