history

Madburg near Kehrig

The name Mädburg (formerly also Medtburg or Methburg) comes, according to the chroniclers, from a remodeling of Madersberg, which still exists today under this name on the opposite side of the valley.

According to written sources, it is known that this building is a Mariakapelle, which was built before 1350 and expanded after 1350. This extension was a pilgrimage church that was built in honor of Saint Luzia. After 1700 the annex was provided with a partition wall. According to a document, a Heinrich Muhl von Neuerburg (* 1325 +1372), son of Heinrich von der Neuerburg, both descendants of Metfried (Wied) , set up a generously endowed benefit for the later monastery . From 1715 the monastery served as a center for hermits in the Archdiocese of Trier for a short period .

The demolition of the monastery must have taken place around 1810. In a newspaper report from August 1, 1928 it says: "Around 1810, under French rule, the chapel, the rectory and the monastery were condemned to demolition."
