Arft is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Vordereifel , which has its administrative headquarters in Mayen .
geography
The village is located northwest of Mayen between Laacher See and Nürburgring near the Hohe Acht , the highest elevation in the Eifel .
The Arfter Bach, one of the two source rivers of the Nette, rises in Arft . The highest point is the Raßberg at 668 m above sea level. NHN , at the foot of which there is a ski area with a ski lift and a 500 m long slope.
In addition to the name-giving place, there is the smaller district of Netterhöfe. Arft borders (clockwise) on the local communities Hohenleimbach , Kempenich (both districts of Ahrweiler), Weibern , Langscheid , Langenfeld , Acht , Siebenbach and (with a narrow strip) Kaltenborn (district of Ahrweiler).
history
Arft belonged to the parish of Langenfeld and with this until the end of the 18th century to the Electorate of Trier . After 1792, French revolutionary troops had taken the so-called Left Bank of the Rhine . After the introduction of the French administrative structures, Arft belonged to the canton of Virneburg in the Rhine-Moselle department from 1798 to 1814 . Due to the agreements made at the Congress of Vienna (1815), the region came under the Kingdom of Prussia . Arft belonged to the mayor's office of Virneburg in the district of Adenau, established in 1816, of the Koblenz administrative district and from 1822 to the Rhine province .

Municipal council
The council in Arft consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Lothar Waldorf became mayor of Arft again in 2019 after a five-year hiatus. In the direct election on May 26, 2019, he was elected for five years with 55.36% of the vote. Carlo Groß held the office in the 2014 to 2019 electoral term.

Arft belongs to the Catholic parish of Langenfeld (Eifel) . The chapel in Arft is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and was built in 1959.
Sights and excursion destinations
Two hiking trails that have been awarded a dream path and can be combined lead through the Arft district .
The protected mountain heath with its variety of grasses and shrubs is a great hiking destination. The award-winning Bergheidenweg leads over the juniper heath and through pine groves; Parts of the route also along the Nette and Selbach rivers. Difficulty level: easy - length 10.3 km - start / end: car park below the Raßberg.
Another destination for hikers is the Dr.-Heinrich-Menke-Park , one of the nature reserves of the Mayen-Koblenz district. Nature lovers appreciate its juniper heather , which is made accessible to tourists by the juniper trail, which also runs 8.8 km through the neighboring juniper protection areas of Heidbüchel, Raßberg, Büschberg, Wolfsberg and Wabelsberg (neighboring municipality of Langscheid ).
The European Commission (together with the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry for the Environment and Forests and the Mayen-Koblenz District Environment Foundation) supports nature conservation measures on selected juniper heaths in the Eastern Eifel. Parts of the LIFE project also concern the above-mentioned protected areas.
