Kalt is a municipality in the Mayen-Koblenz district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Maifeld Association , which has its administrative headquarters in the city of Polch .

history

In the district of Sandwiese several prehistoric and early historical finds have been made near Kalt (older Iron Age and Roman architectural remains ). Kalt is first mentioned in the land register of the imperial abbey of St. Maximin Trier (2nd half of the 12th century). In the Middle Ages, various other monasteries or monasteries were wealthy in Kalt: Florinsstift , Koblenz; the Deutschherrenhaus , Laach Abbey and the Münstermaifeld Abbey . Today's St. Mark's Church is the extension (1923) of a chapel built on old foundations from 1772. According to the local history, only six out of 103 inhabitants survived the Thirty Years' War. An old religious custom is the cold Duchte-Bilchens procession on Ascension Day, which has existed since 1678. Because of a forgotten vow, smallpox is said to have broken out and especially raged among the children of the village.

coat of arms

Cold coat of arms
Blazon : "Under a silver shield head with a red bar cross, a striding, red-armored and tongued golden lion on green."
Justification of the coat of arms: Kalt is one of the so-called "six Trier villages". The patron saint of the community of Kalt is St. Marcus, symbolized by the lion. The green indicates the location of the community in the green hallway.

The coat of arms was introduced in 1963.

church

In the Catholic Church of St. Markus, a hall from 1722, there are two altarpieces supposedly from Münstermaifeld : Petrus altar made of tuff stone (first half of the 17th century) and St. There is a chapel on each of the three arterial roads or at the end of the main roads. These were built around 1850 or in the 19th century and 1937 by the Esch family on their property. The family was the tenant of the Deutschherrenhof and was able to acquire it after the secularization.
