history

The last instance was formed in Dresden in 1996. Originating from the band "Resistance", Hörbi, Tin Whistle, Muttis Stolz, Kaspar Wichman, Holly D. and Markus G-Punkt founded the group. A year later, Benni Cellini joined the band, first as a guest musician and a little later as a permanent member.

With five titles recorded in the Ardenne Ton-Studio in Dresden, the band tried to get a record deal under the name Resistance , which came about in 1996 with the Costbar label. These recordings are included on the first album. As soon as the first record contract came about , the name was changed to last instance in order to distinguish itself from bands of the same name.

Even before the group released their second record, Das Spiel , Hörbi and Kaspar left the band. Substitutes were Sebastian Lohse under the pseudonym Robin Sohn on the microphone and Rasta F. on the bass. In January 2002 coverte last instance the song Vision Thing of The Sisters of Mercy , which on the tribute album Thank You! Sisters of Mercy is published.

After a few tours, the group, with M. Stolz, Robin, Benni Cellini, FX, Holly D., Specki TD, Tin and Oli, now had eight members, started their fourth record. Götter Auf Abruf was released in September 2003 and made it into the German album charts. A live DVD and a live CD were announced for spring 2004, but did not appear until the end of September.

After the tour for the new album, Robin (vocals), Tin (guitar) and FX (bass) surprisingly left the band at the end of March 2004. At about the same time, the two strings of the last instance (M. Stolz and Benni Cellini) helped the newly founded band Angelzoom with four songs for their first album Angelzoom and the single Fairyland . In addition, the two Angelzoom also accompanied live on the "Tiefenrausch Tour 2005".

In December 2004 Michael Ende joined the group as bassist and in February 2005 Holly was a new singer for the last instance. At the beginning of June 2005 the first appearances took place with the new line-up. After a successful "practical test" at various festivals in summer 2005, the instance went back to the recording studio at the end of September to record the album Ins Licht planned for 2006 .

On February 3, 2006, Ins Licht was released and a week later it jumped to number 53 in the German album charts. For the song “Das Stimmlein” on Ins Licht , the last instance brought Eric Fish ( Subway to Sally ), Sven Friedrich ( Zeraphine ) and Thomas Lindner ( Schandmaul ) as guest singers into the studio.

On March 23, 2007, the band's sixth work was released under the title Wir sind Gold - a record that guitarist Holly D. describes as "the most harmonious work". On the one hand, because singer Holly can finally be counted completely in the last instance, on the other hand, because this time the band was closer to the recording process than usual: Most of the songs were written during the “Into the Light” tour on the tour bus , "Where we sometimes sat together and played until 3 o'clock at night". The single We are alone is a cover version of the Inchtabokatables song "You chained me up".

In the same year, on December 14th, the group released their purely acoustic album The White Song , which includes reinterpretations of old songs as well as four completely new ones and the David Bowie cover "Heroes". In August 2008 both the live CD Die Weiße Reise: Live in Dresden and the DVD Weißgold with the recording of the acoustic concert in Dresden's Lukaskirche and the performance at the Wacken Open Air 2007 were released.

The album Schuldig was released on February 27, 2009. The preliminary single Flucht ins Glück contained two other tracks as well as the song “Der Garten”, which the band recorded with the Turkish singer Aylin Aslım .

In May 2010 the drummer Specki TD announced his departure after eight years and switched to In Extremo . From June 2010 David Pätsch, former drummer of Subway to Sally and member of the Blue Man Group, sat on drums. The album Heilig was released on October 1, 2010 . In advance, the song Schau in my face was released as a radio single.

The single Neue Helden was recognized as the official ice hockey world championship anthem of the U18 World Cup in February 2011. The handover of the certificate took place during the game of the Eispiraten Crimmitschau against the Dresdner Eislöwen .

With their tenth studio album Ewig , last instance made it to number 11 in the German album charts in 2012, after the song Von Anfang was published with video and was available as a free download on Amazon, among other places . In December, a music video for the song Blind followed in collaboration with Eisblume singer Ria, which was made in Berlin and Leipzig during the album tour.

In March 2014, Holly D. split from the band. In addition, David Pätsch left the band in April 2015. On Hexennacht 2015, to the surprise of the guests, the band performed with the new drummer Andy Horst. In December 2014 the band covered the Silly Song, Sons of Whores on the occasion of Tamara Danz's birthday . The proceeds from the single went to the Breast Cancer Germany eV association. In autumn 2015, Ally Storch , Silke Meyer (“Frau Schmitt”, Subway to Sally) and Lisa Morgenstern accompanied the Brachial * Leise Akustik church tour.

In May 2016, the band announced that they had separated from guitarist Oliver Schmidt by mutual agreement, because in the “production process for the new album it had to be recognized that the musical ideas are always diverging”. Bernie Geef joined the band as the new guitarist.

In August 2016 the band released their most successful album to date, Love in War . It reached number 4 in the charts. RB Leipzig chose the song “Wir sind eins” as the title song for the 2016 promotion to the First Bundesliga .

Band members timeline

style

After their first record Brachialromantik , which was still strongly based on medieval rock by bands like Subway to Sally or In Extremo, they were initially still ascribed to this style, but have seen themselves as a German-speaking rock act for years.

The sound of the next CD has changed a lot compared to the first work: The strings move a little into the background and the focus goes a little towards the usual band instruments, but some electronic gadgets have also been incorporated. The use of rap in some of the songs also shows their detachment from the medieval rock scene. On the CD you can find the band's first cover version, Love Is a Shield by Camouflage .

With the third album Kalter Glanz , last instance appeared again with a new sound: the string passages faded into the background. Borrowings from folk and guitar riffs, which are typical for Nu Metal , merge on this record. The band also got the support of two well-known singers: Marta Jandová from Die Happy and Sven Friedrich from the now defunct band Dreadful Shadows and the current frontman of the bands Zeraphine and Solar Fake support the septet on three songs.

With the change to the current singer Holly, the style changed again to match the new voice; so the band sounded much calmer now. The strings emerged again, the traditional rock instruments in the background. The strings dominated almost completely on the acoustic album Das Weisse Lied .

The albums Heilig , the previously released Schuldig and the album Ewig form a trilogy that, compared to Das Weisse Lied , focuses on the rock elements from the times with the previous singer Sebastian "Robin" Lohse. Since Holly's voice is rather dissimilar to Robin's, the new albums are more text-heavy than the older ones.
