Eisblume was a German pop-rock - band from Berlin . It consisted of the singer Sotiria "Ria" Schenk (* 1987 in Berlin) as well as Golo Schultz ( keyboard ), Philipp Schardt ( bass ), Philipp Schadebrodt ( drums ) and Benny Baumann ( guitar ).
history
The band around front singer Sotiria was founded at the beginning of 2008. The following summer the band was the opening act for some concerts of Ich + Ich .
On January 16, 2009, accompanied by an animated music video , the ballad Eisblumen , a cover version of the title of Subway to Sally from 2005, was released on the B1 Recordings ( Universal Music ) label . The album was produced by Ingo Politz (Valicon).
Eisblume's debut album Unter dem Eis was also released on March 6, 2009 by B1 Recordings (Universal Music). The video for Eisblumen , produced by the Stockholm film production company Kaktus Films , was nominated for an ECHO in the category “Best National Video”. The TV broadcaster VIVA supports the group as part of the “Artists Development” campaign with “comprehensive media funding”.
In early March 2010 it was announced that the band was working with French singer Jena Lee to release a French-language version of the song Eisblumen under the title Fleurs de glace (Eisblumen) .
At the end of January 2012, the pre-single Forever was released for their second album. The title uses the melody of River Flows in You by Korean pianist Yiruma . The album Ewig was released on February 3, 2012. The album Ewig reached number 17 in Germany and was thus able to build on old successes. The album Unter dem Eis reached number 12 in 2009.
The singer Sotiria has been working with Henning Verlage von Unheilig on a new studio album, which was released in autumn 2018, since 2016 . Unheilig himself declared via Facebook: "The Berlin artist Sotiria (formerly known as EISBLUME) will sing the songs written by Graf and publish them on an album in the course of the year."

The collaboration with Michael Boden, alias Bodenski , from the folk metal band Subway to Sally came about by chance according to his own statement. Sotiria Schenk heard the original version of Eisblumen at an event; after Boden received the request for permission for a cover version, he also wrote the lyrics for the song Unter dem Eis . Before the single and the album were released, Boden and Schenk met in person several times. Contrary to previous reports, Boden does not appear as a producer, but as a regular songwriter. The other lyrics of the band are also from external songwriters.
criticism
Laut.de judged the album Unter dem Eis to be “predictable and calculated”, and the 15 authors of the tracks let the truism “many cooks spoil the broth” come true. In addition, the album is stylistically undecided. According to the criticism of Stormbringer.at, the voice of singer Sotiria Schenk is rated as “not bad”, but the songs are rated as “too shallow” because of their “meaningless lyrics”. The 12 to 16 year olds are therefore specified as the target group.
Visual style
The band is optically based on Tim Burton's works and the Manga / Anime style .
Naming problem
In 2004, the Hamburg artist Christine Westphal published a music album of the same name under the project name eisblume * . In 2009 this was released again on Couvade Records .
“I founded Eisblume in 2004. I released an independent album under this name and had many collaborations with various artists. So the Berlin project couldn't forbid me to use the name. Unfortunately, I failed to have my name protected as a trademark. Of course there is a mix-up. So far I couldn't bring myself to change my name ... "
