Bodenski (born November 6, 1965 in Potsdam ; real name Michael Boden ) is a German musician, composer and poet. He is guitarist, text writer and founding member of the Potsdam band Subway to Sally .

Life

After his parents divorced, Michael Boden moved to Bornstedt , a more rural part of Potsdam, when he was five . He attended an elementary school there for eight years, where his mother was a teacher and lived in an official apartment. At the age of 13 he changed schools. It was around this time that he started playing the guitar after receiving a guitar from his father, who was himself a drummer in an amateur band . In the following years he played in various school bands before he founded the band Bodenski Beat with a school friend, Michael Simon . After the inevitable time with the National People's Army (NVA), he founded the band Subway to Sally together with Simon, Silvio Runge and Ingo Hampf, among others .

From autumn 1991 to 1996 he studied German and sociology at the newly founded University of Potsdam . In 2004 he attended the Celle school .

In 2005 he founded the Michael Boden Verlag and published his first volume of poetry, Innlicher . This contains both lyrics for Subway to Sally (including those that were originally planned to be longer, but shortened to make them more suitable for songs) as well as poems that were never planned for the musical implementation.

Since 1995 Bodenski, as he calls himself as a musician since school days, has been writing German lyrics for Subway to Sally, after having previously concentrated on English. In the “early” years of the band, the themes often had a strong connection to the Middle Ages and its customs and traditions, such as the Hangman's Bride , Under the Gallows and The Witch . Others were often very related to church and religion and questioned their methods. Some of the funeral oration , crucifix , Evil Awakening or three angels should be mentioned here . Literary references have u. a. Mephisto up. Topics such as love and passion are addressed in , among others, Without Love , The Knife or in Snow Queen . Since working on the Angel Warrior album (2002, published 2003), very personal topics such as self-harming behavior ( scars ), child abuse ( evening song ), body cult ( bone ship ) or euthanasia ( 2000 Leagues Under the Sea ) have been aspects of his work. He described an angel warrior as "the part of your soul that lets you climb high mountains."

On March 16, 2012, Bodenski released his first solo album Auto! . Then he went on tour with Eric Fish . One of the musicians who accompanied him on the album was drummer Simon Michael Schmitt , another member of Subway to Sally. Bodenski's wife Jeano worked as a background singer and took over the female vocals in the duet Wo wilde Rosen bloom . The track is a cover version of Where the Wild Roses Grow , which was originally sung by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue . Orkus magazine named Bodenski Newcomer of the Month in April 2012.

Bodenski is also an amateur actor in plays. He has already appeared in Alexander Hawemann adaptations of Clockwork Orange and Disco Pigs .
