MCMXCV (in Arabic numerals : 1995 ) is the second studio album by the band Subway to Sally that was released that same year (release: March 3, 1995, Stars in the Dark). In their eyes and those of their fans, this album represents the beginning of medieval rock in Germany and thus paved a path that many bands like In Extremo , Saltatio Mortis or Schandmaul are treading today . The album was meanwhile with Foppt the Demon! Released in a 2-CD compilation.
Music genre
While the band had let off steam musically in all directions on their debut album in 1994 , from mandolin songs to punk rock with bagpipe accompaniment to guitar rock, a style was found on MCMXCV that made the band the following years.
Sometimes MCMXCV was wrongly named as Subway to Sally's first album, as they set their style on this album. This is also mentioned on their live DVD in the bonus material.
meaning
Songs like “Die Hexe”, “Grabrede” or “Arche” are still present at today's concerts. Another characteristic of the album is the cover: the bull skull logo is still a concise symbol of the group. Further innovations on MCMXCV were the exclusive use of German texts and a personnel change: sackpfeifer Eric Fish moved into the middle of the stage and became the band's lead singer.
