Ally Storch (* 3. April 1976 as Almut Stork in Schlema ) is a German violinist and recording artist in particular in the area of folk , rock and metal , but also in the fields of classical music and jazz . She is a member of the band Subway to Sally and front woman of her solo project " Ally the Fiddle ."

Career

In the youth

Ally Storch received her first violin lessons at the age of 6 at the Shostakowitsch Music School in Berlin-Lichtenberg , later with Thomas Posselt and then with Winfried Höbelt. Here she played in the orchestra of the music school from the 4th year of instruction and sang in the children's choir “Die kleine Amseln”, with which she recorded the children's record “Mimmelitt the city rabbit” ( Reinhard Lakomy ) as a choir singer under the direction of Karola Marckardt . Later on, Ally Storch played in the youth orchestras of the State of Berlin (Jugend Streich Orchester Berlin, Landes Jugend Orchester Berlin, both as concertmaster). In 1992 she switched to Gunther Schneider at the Berlin-Pankow Music School with the desire to study the violin and take up the job of concertmaster of a symphony orchestra. Those youth orchestras led them through Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia and France.

Education

After graduating from high school in 1995, Ally Storch began studying musicology and took the position of concertmaster in the orchestra of the Humboldt University in Berlin . At the same time she took private lessons with Joachim Scholz. In 1996 preparatory lessons in piano were added at the Shostakovich Music School in Berlin-Lichtenberg.

In 1998 Ally Storch began studying violin with Sylvio Krause in Rostock. During her studies she attended master classes, including Werner Scholz , Petru Munteanu and Igor Ozim, and played, again as concertmaster, in the orchestra of the Rostock University of Music and Theater under the direction of Christfried Göckeritz. She worked as a substitute in the opera orchestra of the " Theater Vorpommern " in Stralsund and Greifswald.

In the course of her violin studies, Ally Storch discovered her love for modern and new music , which significantly influenced her understanding of music. She completed her studies in 2010 with the top grade in the main subject and the best examination results of the year in the subjects “work analysis” and “music history”.

Bands

During his studies, Ally Storch founded the “Crossover Orchestra Rostock”, born from a popular music project “Björk” at the Rostock University of Music and Theater , which, as a symphony orchestra , performed popular music. This included the string quartet "Cross4" with a program of rock and pop songs in arrangements by Ally Storch. Both ensembles are no longer active. In 2002 she joined her first band, an Irish folk band from Rostock, with whom she was touring almost every weekend until 2005. Further appearances with " ASP ", " Chamber ", " Haggard ", " Knorkator ", " Umbra et Imago ", " Die Apokalyptischen Reiter " and "Walk-a-Tones" followed. With these formations Ally Storch was able to play in numerous countries in addition to all of Germany: Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Greece, Tunisia, Argentina, Chile, Mexico and El Salvador. Since then, Ally Storch has played in a wide variety of ensembles and styles.

In 2011 she performed with the “Blue Sky Orchestra” in Cannes in France and accompanied David Garrett .

From 2012 to 2014 she worked with Schandmaul . So she took over the pregnancy replacement for Anna Katharina Kränzlein at the concerts in 2012 . In 2013 she performed with Schandmaul at the acoustic concerts, especially at the anniversary concert in the Tanzbrunnen in Cologne . In 2014 she was supposed to take over the pregnancy replacement for Anna Katharina Kränzlein. After the first three concerts, however, she was also canceled due to pregnancy and was represented by Tobias “Tobi” Heindl from Fiddler's Green during the rest of the Schandmaul tour .

On October 19, 2013 and October 13, 2018, she took part in the anniversary concerts of the Last Instance in Dresden . In autumn 2015 she accompanied the last instance on the Brachial * Leise Akustik church tour.

On December 27, 2015, she performed with Die Apokalyptischen Reiter.

From summer 2016 she played with Subway to Sally on behalf of Ms. Schmitt until the band announced their entry as a permanent member on November 20, 2016.

Ally currently belongs to the following bands:

  • Ally the Fiddle - solo project of the violinist, since 2008,
  • Subway to Sally, since 2016.

Music school lessons

From 2008 to 2011 Ally Storch taught the subject "violin" in Mecklenburg and at the rock and pop school in Rostock as well as the rock and pop forge in Göhlen until she left Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in 2011.

The solo project

As a consequence of her artistic work, Ally Storch recorded her first solo EP “Red Unicorn” in 2008 under the stage name “Ally the Fiddle”, which turned out to be a folk fiddler in the course of her work. An ensemble of Robert Klawonn (guitar) and Stefan “Huky” Hukriede (drums) formed the band “Ally the Fiddle”. Later Diemo Heuer (guitar) and Thorsten Hartung (bass) joined the band. Simon Tumielewicz has been playing bass in the band since 2013. In this project Ally Storch combines her preferences for (Irish) Folk, Progressive Rock, Fusion and Metal. One of the main concerns of the band is to make the violin audible in its full variety of sounds, beyond the notion of "classical" music. Originally planned as a purely instrumental project, Ally the Fiddle now also has pieces with vocals in its program.

The band had their first appearances in front of a larger audience in 2009 as the opening act for Haggard . In 2011 Ally the Fiddle played at the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and the Festival Mediaval and appeared in June as tour support for the rock band UFO , in autumn as the opening act for the Tour Purest Magic , a project by Bobby Kimball and Ian Cussick . In 2011 and 2012, Ally the Fiddle was finally able to support ASP .
