Werner Scholz (born July 7, 1926 in Dresden ; † October 10, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German violinist and leader of a master class for violin.

Professional background

Werner Scholz studied with Adrian Rappoldi in his native Dresden . From 1948 to 1951 he was concertmaster of the Dresden Philharmonic . From 1951 assistant and successor to Gustav Havemann in Cottbus and from 1953 in Berlin. In 1961 he was appointed professor for violin at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin . From 1974 he led a master class for violin with outstanding teaching success. In November 1975 he was elected to the Presidium of the Central Board of the Art Union of the GDR .

Musical achievements

Werner Scholz worked for 18 years from 1956 to 1974 as 1st concertmaster of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra . At the same time he gave concerts as a soloist in major European music centers. Through him numerous works were premiered and premiered. There are also recordings of him on radio and television. He was the founder and director of the chamber orchestra of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra and the chamber orchestra of the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin. In chamber music associations he played a. a. with Dieter Zechlin (piano) , Jürgen Schröder (piano) , Alfred Lipka (viola) and Anton Spieler (cello). He played a major role in the development of the international festival of the arts in Hohenlohe and in the Sophie Charlotte Violin Prize of the Friends of the Mirow Palace .
