Iskandar Widjaja (born June 6, 1986 in Berlin ) is a German violinist and winner of numerous international competitions.

Life

Iskandar Widjaja started playing the violin at the age of four. At the age of eleven he became a student of Werner Scholz and later Joachim Hantzschk as a young student at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin . In 2003 he moved to the Julius Stern Institute of the Berlin University of the Arts to work with Uwe-Martin Haiberg and Ilan Gronich.

Concert tours have taken him to all five continents, including the Berlin Philharmonic , the Aula Simfonia Jakarta, the Tel Aviv Opera House, and Hong Kong City Hall. He regularly appears as a soloist with orchestras such as the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, German Symphony Orchestra and Konzerthausorchester Berlin, L'Orchestre de la suisse romande, the Warsaw, Munich and Shanghai Philharmonic and others.

In 2013 he made his first appearance in Hong Kong and played at the opening event of the APEC summit in Bali .

In 2014 he made his debut with the Munich Philharmonic under Christoph Eschenbach .

From 2007 to 2009 Iskandar Widjaja played a more than 150-year-old violin by Nicolas Darche, which was loaned to him as a multiple winner of the competition of the German Musical Instrument Fund. He currently plays a violin by JB Vuillaume, 1875, and the Stradivarius "Stephens" 1690, on loan from Florian Leonhardt

On May 29, 2016 he made his debut in the Berlin Philharmonie with the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Christoph Eschenbach .

At the same time, he often appears at mass media events such as Miss World or Miss Earth , the Davis Cup, the EXPO in Milan, Fashion Week in Paris or the world premiere of the suite for violin and orchestra "Across the Stars" from Star Wars by John Williams in Wiener Konzerthaus on.

Iskandar is heavily involved in educational projects for children in the Asia-Pacific region, for example in cooperation with UNICEF or the WWF (World Wrestling Federation). With KOMPAS Gramedia, Indonesia's largest media group, he organized charities to finance musical instruments and lessons for street children.
