German Foundation for Musical Life

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben is a foundation whose purpose is to promote top-class music in Germany .

The foundation was founded in Hamburg in 1962 by Hans Sikorski and Wolfgang Essen. The Federal President is the patron of the foundation . From 1971 to 1984 Eduard Soering headed the foundation. The foundation has been headed by Irene Schulte-Hillen since 1992.

The foundation sets three priorities in promoting young, highly talented musicians :

  • The foundation lends historical instruments from the German Musical Instrument Fund to young artists.
  • The concert series Foyer of Young Artists gives young musicians the opportunity to perform.
  • Young artists are individually supported with prizes, grants and sponsorships.

The foundation supports the activities of the German Music Council . Its main donors have been the broadcasters since 1965 and, for some years now, the ARD advertising companies . ARD is represented on the foundation's board and presidium .
