Nord Nord Ost is the eighth studio album by the group Subway to Sally . It was released on August 22, 2005 on the Nuclear Blast label . The album reached number 5 on the German hit parade in the first week of sales. The first single "Sieben" was released on July 18, 2005.

History of origin

After the record contract with Vivendi Universal had expired, the band received an offer from Nuclear Blast. Since the previous drummer David Pätsch left the band in 2004, the album was recorded with Martin Kessler (formerly H-Blockx ). However, Kessler was not ready for a permanent bond with the band, so the tour for the album was denied with the new drummer Simon Michael Schmitt. For the first time, a symphonic orchestra was included in the arrangements with the Babelsberg film orchestra .

After the band had worked with many metal elements in the previous album “Engelskrieger” , Nord Nord Ost again included elements of baroque music more (like the choir piece “Sarabande De Noir” or the instrumental piece “Lacrimae '74”) without referring to other pieces to avoid aggressive guitar passages. The album also contains dark, melancholy ballads such as “Feuerkind”, “Eisblumen” and the “Seemannslied”. With "Snow Queen" the album contains a reference to the art fairy tale The Snow Queen .
