Anna Katharina Kränzlein (born November 7, 1980 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) is a German violinist . She is best known for her fast and varied playing technique. She is the youngest founding member of the band Schandmaul , which was founded in 1998 and to which she belonged until 2017.

Life

Anna Katharina Kränzlein spent her youth in Puchheim . At the age of five she learned the recorder autodidactically and in the following ten years also soprano , alto and transverse flute , with which she twice won first prizes at Jugend musiziert at state level.

At the age of 8 she got her first violin lessons from Simone Burger-Michielsen, which sparked her love for classical music. From the age of 12 Anna played with the newly founded Puchheim Youth Chamber Orchestra (PJKO), from 1997 she was concertmaster under Peter Michielsen, who was also her violin teacher for a long time. Concert tours followed with this orchestra and the German youth orchestra to Hungary , Italy , Denmark , Belgium , Holland and Japan . Later she also played the violin and viola in the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra .

She has won prizes up to the national level eight times in the Jugend musiziert competition , in solo violin and ensemble evaluation . At the age of 14 she was still learning the piano, a prerequisite for studying the violin.

After she had performed live with the rock band Weto in 1997, her band Schandmaul, which also included two Weto musicians, met for the first time in the summer of 1998. Originally the project was only planned for one concert, but the great demand for a CD in the sold out Hexe in Gröbenzell kept them going. Their phonograms have sold over 400,000 times. Her penultimate album Infinite received a gold record . The last album LeuchtFeuer landed at number 1 in the charts in 2016. Their tours took the band through sold out halls in Germany, Austria , Switzerland , the Benelux countries and Russia .

Anna came to the hurdy-gurdy in 2000 when she met the hurdy-gurdy maker Karl Riedl and built a hurdy-gurdy with him for her advanced music course. She has been playing hurdy-gurdy since the second Schandmaul album, since the fourth album she has been involved in the song and text writing and on the fifth album she also recorded viola parts for the first time.

From 1998 to 2000 Anna Kränzlein was a young violin student at the Munich Conservatory with Urs Stieler. In 2001 she switched to Ulrike Dierick at the Saarbrücken University of Music . But she played in the university orchestra under Max Pommer and the violinist Maxim Vengerov . In 2003 Anna Kränzlein studied in Max Speermann's class at the University of Music in Würzburg , where she graduated with top marks in the spring of 2006 and obtained her violin diploma. Since 2001 she has also been taking singing lessons (classical and jazz).

On April 27, 2007 she released the album Neuland , the first of her classical solo project Anna Katharina . These are five classical and four original pieces that were recorded with violin, viola and, on some songs, with hurdy-gurdy. Kränzlein can also be heard as a classical singer for the first time on two songs. Matthias Richter (bassist for Schandmaul and Weto) on bass and Curt Cress ( Tina Turner , Falco , Queen ) on drums are also involved in the album, which not only contains classical, but also jazz, funk and rock elements .

From 2008 to 2010 she was live with Michael Ende ( last instance ) on bass and Specki TD (last instance and In Extremo ) on drums . With her band and Günther Gebauer as producers, she released her second album Saitensprung on October 16, 2009 . In September 2009 she was on stage with Wolfgang Ambros in his cult musical Der Watzmann , performed in the Munich Circus Krone . Since then she has often accompanied him at Ambros pur . In 2010 she also went live with Pippo Pollina on a European tour, including to Lugano, Munich and Paris.

In the summer of 2010, Leonhard Schwarz joined Anna Katharina as the new drummer and percussionist . In 2011 Schwarz left the band again. Since then, Philipp Renz has been the new drummer for Anna Katharina & Band . On October 19th, 2012 Anna Katharina Kränzlein released her third studio album Dreiklang . On this album she can be heard on the piano for the first time. Since the release of the Schandmaul album “Unendet” on January 24, 2014, Anna Katharina Kränzlein can also be heard on the cello .

After the band was renamed the Anna Katharina Trio , Philipp Renz left the band as well. Andy Horst (last instance) has been the band's drummer since January 2017. Horst had already represented Renz at two concerts in 2013.

Anna Katharina Kränzlein founded the trio Auszeit in 2016 together with Florian Ganslmeier ( bagpipes , pipes , flutes and percussion ) and Jürgen Kampik ( guitars , cigar box guitar , ukulele , percussion and vocals ) . Anna Katharina plays the violin, hurdy-gurdy, flute, percussion and bodhran in this trio and sings.

In 2017 she founded the music project Rebellische Saiten together with the songwriter Florian Ernst Kirner . After a last joint appearance at the Feuertal Festival on August 26, 2017, she left Schandmaul. She is currently participating in the Apassionata show EQUILA at the Showpalast in Munich , which premiered in November 2017.
