Apassionata
Apassionata (proper spelling APASSIONATA) was a family entertainment show with horses held across Europe , which was seen by up to 500,000 spectators annually. Due to a trademark dispute that was settled in summer 2019, there has been no horse show under the title Apassionata since then .
The show was redesigned every year as an independent work and combined the artistic performance of different horse breeds and riding styles with music, light compositions, stage sets and live performances by dancers.
Companies
Peter Massine and Robert Wagner founded Equimondo GmbH & Co. KG in 2002 to produce and host the Apassionata show. Since then, the show has been organized by the following companies: Equiarte GmbH & Co. KG, APASSIONATA GmbH, HLT Holding GmbH, St. George Edition Ltd., Apassionata World GmbH (2016-18) and SenseUp Entertainment GmbH (2017 -18). The 2018–19 season was produced by Apassionata GmbH and hosted by Live Nation Entertainment .
In 2008 Robert Wagner withdrew from the company, and since then he has been involved in a legal dispute with Peter Massine over the sales price. In 2016, the Chinese company Hongkun International Holdings Limited took over 51% of the shares in Apassionata World GmbH and pushed the co-founder and long-time managing director Peter Massine out of the company, who now only owns 1.24% of the shares in this company. The remaining 98.76 percent has belonged to Apassionata World GmbH, a subsidiary of the Chinese real estate developer Hongkun International Holdings Limited in Hong Kong, a company of the Hongkun Group, which is one of the 100 largest real estate companies in China, since 2017. Due to the legal dispute over the individual and trademark rights as well as the takeover between the former partners, Peter Massine also lost control of the planned park project in Munich.
As a result of this shareholder dispute, there were two Apassionata tour shows in the 2017/2018 season: SenseUp Entertainment GmbH toured with a show entitled "Apassionata - The Dream ", which was created by the previous Apassionata author and director Holger Ehlers, while Apassionata World GmbH organized a tour entitled “Companions of Light” with Klaus Hillebrecht as artistic director.
According to a court ruling by the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court on November 23, 2017, Apassionata World GmbH, which belongs to the Chinese investor Hongkun, was not allowed to host a show with the title Apassionata or to advertise a (horse) show with its company name from July 1, 2018 . After this court ruling, Peter Massine and his newly founded company Apassionata GmbH - renamed Apassionata Produktions GmbH and later Wickberg GmbH within six months - produced his last Apassionata show in the 2018/19 season under the title The magical dream . Peter Massine's Apassionata GmbH entered into a strategic alliance with the world's largest concert and event organizer Live Nation Entertainment , which was to organize all Apassionata tours from December 2018 and for the next few years. However, all Apassionata shows announced for autumn 2019 under the title The Magic Coat have been canceled, so that for the first time since 2002 there will be no Apassionata show. This is due to the fact that the legal dispute over the APASSIONATA brand, which had been going on since November 2016, was settled in April 2019. All rights of use to the Apassionata brand belong to Apassionata World GmbH, which however only plans to market its Cavalluna horse show and has not yet announced whether the Apassionata brand name will still exist in the future.
In 2010 Apassionata received the PRG Live Entertainment Award in the “Show of the Year” category for the Holger Ehlers show Magic of Freedom .
The Apassionata shows

Apassionata was a Europe-wide family entertainment show with horses in the live entertainment area. The show showed a new program every year. Sometimes difficult dressage lessons, complicated stunts and comedic interludes combined with elaborate stage constructions, light effects, video art and dance interludes. Since 2008, the various scenes have been linked by a story that has guided the audience like a red thread through the show. A special characteristic of Apassionata was the variety of horse breeds (including Lusitanos , Frisians , Noriker , Shagya Arabs , Shetland ponies , Altér Real , Andalusians , Icelandic horses , Lipizzaners , Shire horses and donkeys ).
Various artists with experience from film, television or the large-scale event sector were hired for the artistic direction of the shows. The music was composed anew every year and especially for Apassionata . Until 2011 the Icelandic soprano Arndis Halla gave the voice to the vocal pieces. The author and director for the Apassionata show “Sehnsucht” in 2008 was the light artist Gert Hof . From 2009 to 2019 Holger Ehlers was responsible for all productions of the Apassionata shows - with the exception of the parallel show “The Companions of Light” in the 2017/18 season, for which the composer Klaus Hillebrecht was the creative director. For the 2018/19 tour, Holger Ehlers staged a revised new edition of his show “The Dream” under the title “The Magical Dream”.
Since 2003 Apassionata has been touring Germany and other European countries annually. By 2004, the show initially toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland. From January 2005 Apassionata performed a second production in other European countries. In 2009 the two productions were merged and have since been seen in a major tour through 30 cities across Europe. Apassionata took place in large arenas, the capacity of which varied between 2,500 and 10,000 seats per show. After fifteen years, Apassionata had more than 7 million viewers, making it one of the most successful family entertainment shows in Europe.
In spring 2012 an attempt was made to establish the show in the USA. The tour was designed for 18 months under the name "Apassionata - The Beginning" and had to be discontinued after three months.
Peter Massine's plan to establish a permanent location for his show in Munich with an " Apassionata Showpalast " led to a bitter legal dispute between the old partners and shareholders, with the result that the planned horse park in Munich-Fröttmaning in 2016 was taken over by his former company Apassionata World GmbH and its Chinese owner Hongkun and is operated by them.
The show DVDs with the Holger Ehlers pieces Im Licht der Sterne , Zauber der Freiheit , Die goldene Spur , Freunde Forever , Zeit für Träume , Im Bann des Spiegel and Cinema Of Dreams as well as the shows Vier Jahreszeiten , Best of 2003– 2005 and Sehnsucht received a gold award (music video award) in Germany. Platinum was awarded for The very best of and Zauber der Freiheit .
