Ta 'Pinu basilica

The sanctuary Madonna ta 'Pinu (Blessed Virgin Mary of Ta' Pinu) is located about 700 meters from G Ortarb on the island of Gozo in Malta and belongs to the Diocese of Gozo . Work on the church began on May 30, 1920, on August 31, 1932 it was consecrated and already on August 10 of the same year by Pope Pius XI. raised to the basilica. The church, built in neo-Romanesque style, has 6 mosaics, windows in 76 colors and numerous votive offerings . The bell tower is 61 meters high.

To this day there is a pilgrimage every year that goes back to an apparition of Mary . On July 22nd, 1883, Karmni Grima, a woman from Għarb, passed the old chapel, which at that time stood on the site of today's basilica. From inside she heard the voice of the Mother of God asking her to say three Ave Maria . Karmni Grima complied with the request, whereupon her seriously ill mother miraculously recovered.

In May 1990, the sanctuary was visited by Pope John Paul II on his Malta tour.

A plaque directly on the facade of the basilica marks the beginning of a way of the cross with life-size marble figures, which leads to the hill ta 'Ghammar, where a small chapel and a meeting place in the shape of a Greek theater conclude.

Pope Benedict XVI dedicated the Golden Rose to the Marian Shrine on the occasion of his malta trip on April 18, 2010 .
