Anderswelt is the sixth studio album by the Gröbenzell medieval / folk rock band Schandmaul , which was recorded from October 2007 to January 2008 in the Turnstyle Studio in Berlin and in the HOFA Studios in Karlsdorf . The producer is Thomas Heimann-Trosien. The album contains 14 songs, including an instrumental with the song Fiddlefolkpunk . Thematically, this album is about mythical figures, like sirens in the song of the same name, werewolves in the song Wolfman and ghosts in the song Hour of Light . The song Drei Lieder tells of a young bard who takes part in a singing tournament to get revenge on the prince who once destroyed his home village and killed his only brother. The song The Queen describes the situation of a bewitched woman who was once kind-hearted and turned into a vicious dragon . The song Otherworld describes how strange characters from the Otherworld were seen at a Celtic shrine . Benni Cellini from Last Instance appears in the songs Warrior , Queen , The Bride , Eyes! and princess as guest musicians.

Cover

The cover shows two outlines of a little girl and a hunched man standing on a huge branch. A castle can be seen in the background. The back of the booklet completes the cover picture, which is very similar to this. The two outlines of the body and the castle in the background are missing. The cover including an enclosed poster depicting the same motif was illustrated by the Munich painter Thomas von Kummant.

Chart placements

Anderswelt was in the top 100 of the German album charts for 15 weeks (entry at number 8), 3 weeks in the Austrian charts (entry at number 43) and also for three weeks in the Swiss charts (entry at number 44).

Dates of the Otherworld Tour 2008

The Anderswelt tour began on April 11, 2008 in the Netherlands and also ran through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The highlight was the anniversary concert that took place on November 14, 2008 at the Zenith in Munich. Support bands on this and the anniversary tour were the Dutch folk-pop band Reincarnatus , the Regensburg folk-rock band Zwielicht , the brass band LaBrassBanda and the rock band Last Instance .

particularities

  • The song Krieger , together with The Young Siegfried from the album Von Spitzbuben und other scoundrels and dragon slayers from the album Wie Pech und Schwefel, tells the legend of Siegfried the dragon slayer from the Nibelungenlied . At the anniversary concert in Munich's Zenith, which took place on November 14, 2008 in front of 7,000 spectators, the songs were performed together for the first time as the Dragon Medley .
  • The song The Queen was performed live twice. These were also at the concert in November 2008 and at the anniversary open air concert in Duisburg on June 10, 2009. Singer Thomas Lindner said that the song was impossible to play without a guest musician and that it would only be played twice for this reason.
  • During the production of the album, two other songs, Die Melodie and Hibblefolkpunk , were created that did not make it onto the album. The melody was published as an exclusive track of the then issue of Sonic Seducer magazine, while Hibblefolkpunk was only available for download from the band's homepage.
  • To this day Anderswelt is the only Schandmaul album that does not contain a single guitar solo.

criticism

Monsters and Critics wrote about Anderswelt that, even if there is no brutality like other medieval rock bands present it, it is very successful and delicacies like kings and knights give Schandmaul's music a certain taste. Even if the band concentrates more on the melody of the songs, the rocker prevailed in the song Second Soul . Furthermore, the sounds of bagpipes and flutes, as they could be heard in Dunklerlassung from the previous album, would be replaced by the hour of light . “Once you have entered,” said the critic, “the door quickly slams shut behind you.” Everything is there that you can expect from such a record.
