KIKAS (Art in the Aigen Schlägl cinema) is an art and culture association in Aigen-Schlägl in Upper Austria's Mühlviertel .

history

The registered cultural association with voluntary members came into being in an old cinema in Aigen-Schlägl that had not been used since the mid-1980s, with the aim of creating an event center for contemporary artists from home and abroad in the upper Mühlviertel. Since then there have been 325 events with over 54,000 spectators. The capacity of the hall is around 500 standing or 300 seats. The association's program focuses on cabaret , alternative cinema and (rock) concerts. The association is funded by the state of Upper Austria, local sponsors and the two communities of Aigen and Schlägl.

Guest cabaret artists were Andreas Vitasek , Stermann & Grissemann , Maschek , Andrea Händler , Alfred Dorfer , Roland Düringer , Lukas Resetarits , Alf Poier , Dolores Schmidinger , Gerhard Polt , Thomas Maurer , Josef Hader as well as Scheuba and Palfrader . The musicians Wir sind Helden , Juli , Tito & Tarantula , Die Happy , Fettes Brot , Sido , Flying Pickets , 4Lyn (ex Headtrip), SLUT and Paradies Now also performed .

Events

In 2005 the festival lounge for the Festival of the Regions was located at KIKAS .

The "Local Heros" event at KIKAS is an opportunity for bands or soloists to compete against others. A three-person jury decides the best act with the help of the audience's participation. It is considered the largest band contest in Europe. Local Heroes Austria was founded in Austria by the Enemy.at association to support and inspire the music scene in Austria. The elimination rounds for Upper Austria have been taking place at KIKAS since 2006. In 2009, 220 bands took part across Austria.

Cinema operation: Due to the historical history of the former cinema, films are still shown today with the old machines from 1939 (Philips FP5 (Series 1). Technical details: 35 mm, wheel to wheel, light generation through carbon rods, stereo optical sound, mercury vapor rectifier .
