Alfred Dorfer (born October 11, 1961 in Vienna ) is an Austrian cabaret artist and actor .

He is one of the most famous cabaret artists in Austria, not least because of his involvement in numerous Austrian film productions. After initial successes with the Schlabarett group , he gained national fame alongside Josef Hader as the main actor in the film India .

education

In 1980 Alfred Dorfer graduated from high school and, when he was not accepted at the Reinhardt Seminar , began to study theater studies and German at the University of Vienna . Two years later he broke off his studies to begin an acting training with Herwig Seeböck and Reinhard Tötschinger . He resumed his studies in 2005 and graduated in 2007. While he dealt with National Socialism and the GDR in his diploma thesis (title: Cabaret and Totalitarianism ) , he expanded the topic in his dissertation to include fascism in Italy and the Vichy regime in France. The title of his doctoral thesis is Satire in restrictive systems in Europe in the 20th century .

Dorfer turned to acting in 1982 and was involved in 1983 at the Theater in der Josefstadt with "Christina's Home Journey", then in 1989 in "Rikiki" (Cami) at the Wiener Festwochen . In 1990 he took over the direction of " Educating Rita " with Seeböck / Mottl for the Volkstheater in the outskirts, followed the following year by the play India , which he wrote together with Josef Hader and which was awarded the main prize of the Austrian Cabaret Prize.

After initial successes with the cabaret group Schlabarett since 1984, Dorfer appeared in 1989 together with Josef Hader in the joint cabaret program "Freizeitmesse". From 1993 the first three solo programs "Alles Gute", "Ohne Netz" and "Badeschluß" were created. After an extensive tour through Austria and Germany, his fourth solo program “heim.at” followed in 2000, which was awarded the German Cabaret Prize in 2002 . Dorfer had the premiere of “foreign” in the Munich Lustspielhaus on March 14, 2006, and from the end of 2010 he will be touring with the program “bisjetzt”, with which he appeared in December 2011 at the 20th Arosa Humor Festival . Movie and TV

In 1993 Alfred Dorfer played one of the leading roles in the film India , directed by Paul Harather . The following year the film Muttertag followed and in 1995 Free Play , directed by Harald Sicherheitsitz . Then he took on the leading role in Qualtinger's Vienna . The movie Wanted followed in 1999 and Ravioli in 2003 .

In 1998 the TV sitcom MA 2412 started , in which Dorfer portrayed the figure of Mr. Weber. In 2003 the series was completed with the movie MA 2412 - The State Servants .

From 2004 to 2010 Dorfer hosted the satirical late night show Dorfers Donnerstalk , which was broadcast on ORF 1 and in the night program of 3sat .

On April 26, 2016 he was the first guest on the ZDF cabaret show Die Anstalt . Another appearance followed on December 6, 2016.

Alfred Dorfer published his first book Wörtlich in spring 2007 . Satirical texts (Karl Blessing Verlag, 2007, ISBN 978-3-89667-330-5 ). In addition to the texts on his programs India and foreign satirical comments on political and social events in Austria and Germany, most of which were first published in his column called Donnerstalk on the Austrian pages of the weekly newspaper Die Zeit .

Publications

Alfred Dorfer has published almost all of his previous programs on VHS, DVD or CD. There are also two best-of CD releases called Eins and Zwei . Music CDs were released for the films Muttertag and Free Play , and Dorfer was involved in the production. All seasons of the show Dorfers Donnerstalk are also available on DVD.

Awards

In 2002 he received the German Cabaret Prize for Cabaret. In 2008 he received the Bavarian Cabaret Award 2009 because, according to Bayerischer Rundfunk, he was legendary for his bitter humor and his merciless look. In 2016 he was awarded the Swiss Cornichon Cabaret Prize. In January 2017 he was awarded the main prize 2016 at the German Cabaret Prize.

Others

  • Alfred Dorfer is a big fan of the soccer club FK Austria Wien , whose games he has been attending regularly since childhood. For the 90th anniversary of the club, he produced a cabaret video in which he reviewed the history of Austria - sometimes humorously and self-deprecatingly. He was critical of the then club leadership under Frank Stronach , which was shown in Dorfer's Donnerstalk with its own "Stronach episode".
  • The Alfred Dorfer Scholarship has existed since the 2001/02 winter semester , which replaces tuition fees for single parents in financial distress. The financial means of this scholarship are collected by Alfred Dorfer after his performances in the form of donations, topped up by him and made available to the ÖH for a specific purpose.
