Bad Fucking [ ˈbad fʊkɪŋ ] is an Austrian film by Harald SICHERITZ based on a book by Kurt Palm .

action

The fictional Upper Austrian tourist town Bad Fucking lives quite well on tourists who are attracted by the original name of the place.

  • The Sandleitner family runs a souvenir and photo shop. Her daughter Veronika is not interested and wants to study in Munich. She spends her free time with the Serbian cleaning lady Jagoda.
  • Mayor Hintersteiner owns the spa hotel with his family and would like to build a lake hotel on the idyllic Höllensee, for which he has already approached master builder Maria Sperr. The bottom of the lake, however, belongs to the hermit Vitus Schallmoser, who lives in a cave.
  • Schallmoser prefers to support the police commander Wellisch, who is defending his fish sanctuary there. But he also discovered a hall with stone age paintings in his cave.
  • Kilian Hintersteiner, the mayor's older son, runs the hotel, harassing his brother Philipp and trading drugs in between.

The golden times came to an end when a landslide buried the most important access road. Then tourism collapses. Only the criminal police find their way into the village and arrest Kilian for drug trafficking. Three years later it looks bad. The hotel rooms are empty - the villagers want to save their future with unconventional projects:

  • Veronika, whose parents were killed in the rock fall, is in debt with the souvenir and photo shop and just wants to leave. She wants to make money by blackmailing her photo customers.
  • The mayor now wants to build a refugee home on the shore of the lake. To do this, he reactivated his connections to Maria Sperr, who is now Interior Minister. However, with speculation he not only lost 1 million private money, but also 6 million from the community.
  • His son Kilian has now been released from prison, lives in Vienna and wants to market the cave with the paintings on a large scale. The dentist also contributed 10,000.
  • The second son Philipp now runs the hotel and only wants Veronika.
  • The post commander Wellisch want an eel farming build in Höllensee and therefore opposed the plans of the mayor. From an altarpiece he interpreted a prophecy about an eel invasion in the next few days.
  • Jagoda wants to go back to her homeland and open a café in Belgrade . In return, she saves money, which she also earns with love services.

The village also has the problem that the ambiguous place name is blocked on the computer systems in the ministries and various companies and is therefore always forgotten. The police are still working with the uniforms and equipment of the gendarmerie, which was dissolved in 2005 . The place is also a blank spot for the mobile phone providers, so that you have to climb a mountain (called the "Internet platform") in order to have mobile Internet. And the two pay phones only work with shillings .

With the arrival of a cheerleading group at the training camp , the village comes to life. Meanwhile, the weather service observes strange phenomena of eels and supercells and argues whether these could be dangerous. And then there are deaths: First, Vitus Schallmoser dies in his cave. Then Philipp unintentionally poisons his father with a capillary mushroom , which has been committing suicide since Kilian's depressed mother was arrested. Before that, she confesses that Kilian is really Vitus' son. The interior minister is kidnapped by Chechen terrorists near the village and replaced by a doppelganger who subsequently murders the Russian interior minister. The dentist finds Kilian in Vienna and demands his money back from him. The next day he was also found shot dead in his practice. Finally Veronika is kidnapped by Philipp. After a failed rape, the latter also kills himself with the mushroom poison.

A devastating thunderstorm then discharges over Bad Fucking, brings many eels and the apocalyptic finale.

The events are first told by the kidnapped Veronika, who is tied to a bed, as a flashback. In between, they make comments. The short end after Veronica's liberation by Jagoda is again presented in chronological order. The epilogue is followed by events in the Ministry of the Interior, where the minister appears. The cheerleaders, who fled Bad Fucking in time, appear at the end of the credits.

The film was shot in summer 2013 in Lauffen , Altaussee , on Langbathsee and the Rosenhügel studios in Vienna . The film opened in Austrian cinemas on December 20, 2013 and, with 20,000 viewers on the opening weekend, had the best theatrical release of an Austrian film in 2013. In the run-up to the cinema release, Facebook forbade any advertising for the film on the social media platform due to the film title.

book

The novel of the same name by Kurt Palm (2010) sold 50,000 times in the entire German-speaking area and was awarded the " Friedrich Glauser Prize 2011" as the best novel . In 2011, a play of the same name by Palm was premiered at the Phönix Theater in Linz .

Allusions

The place name alludes to the real Upper Austrian town of Fucking , which is actually visited by tourists who have their photos taken with the town sign. The interior minister in books and films, Maria Sperr, shows numerous parallels with the former Austrian interior minister Maria Fekter .
