action
Gerry Schartl is a very successful car salesman who also has the talent to sell even the most hideous models. Not entirely unselfishly, he throws one or the other sale to the junior boss Bertram. Immediately after the funeral of the senior boss, who had a heart attack during a meeting , Gerry flies with his dissatisfied wife Lena and teenage daughter Patrizia to the holiday island of Cosamera for an all-inclusive vacation. Already at the airport of departure, Gerry noticed some inconsistencies that had been making the rounds in the company in the past: At the last meeting with the senior, company contacts to Germany were mentioned, and the junior boss has recently been on the phone with a certain Mr. "Poppitz". As Bertram Gerry was unable to deliver an important message at the funeral due to lack of time, he is becoming increasingly insecure and suspects a hostile takeover that could endanger his job.
After arriving in Cosamera, the stress really starts. The holiday complex is sealed off from the outside like a fortress, Gerry's suitcase has disappeared, the holiday complex is teeming with cockroaches and intrusive Piefkes , and the hotel staff is incompetent to rude. The madness is perfect when, to make matters worse, it turns out that a certain "Poppitz" appears among the German holiday guests - the signs are increasing that this is precisely the arrogant German Ben, with whom Lena is blatantly flirting.
From then on, Gerry thinks about how to deal with Ben. Does he save him in his imagination from a plastic shark in the swimming pool or does he just watch as Ben is shot by arrows by a drunk and a stoned vacationer? In another fantasy Gerry also tells his wife about Ben and Mr. Poppitz, and Lena gives him the task of rendering Ben harmless.
None of this leads to any result, and Gerry and his family are seen back on the plane that is just leaving for Cosamera. It turns out that everything that happened in Cosamera was just possible scenarios that Gerry had made up in his imagination. Many of the characteristics of the airplane passengers were transferred into his fantasy world. Since Gerry has always expected the worst, he is now slightly optimistic about the holiday, but the name Poppitz does not leave him alone, and he asks himself aloud who it is.
Only then does his wife reveal herself to him as Poppitz. She and the junior boss Bertram had a relationship, and so that Gerry didn't find out about it, Bertram Lena always called Mr. Poppitz on the phone. But since Lena confesses to her husband Gerry and their daughter, he forgives her and the family flies together on a well-deserved vacation.
