The Langbathseen , the Vordere and the Hintere Langbathsee , are 8 kilometers west of Ebensee ( Salzkammergut ) at the foot of the Höllengebirge .

Geography and landscape

The two lakes are located in a long basin that extends between the actual limestone massif of the Höllengebirge and a flysch chain . They are characterized by crystal clear water in drinking water quality .

The Vordere Langbathsee can be reached by car on Langbathsee Straße  ( L1297 ).

Vorderer Langbathsee

The Vordere Langbathsee is a good 1.1 kilometers long and almost half a kilometer wide. Its deepest point is 33 meters below the water level. It is designated as a nature reserve  ( N010 , 36.5546 ha).

The Langbathsee hunting lodge , which Emperor Franz Josef had built for himself, is located on the lake .

Natural beaches and a water temperature of up to 24 degrees Celsius in August invite you to swim . The water quality is consistently very good, only lower in individual years.

The Hintere Langbathsee is 600 meters long and 400 meters wide. Its deepest point is 13 meters below the water level. The lake is also a nature reserve ( N011 , 12.4674 ha).

The Hintere Langbathsee is hardly used as a bathing lake, its water quality is only classified as good due to the higher biomass content (algae), with regard to the bathing water classification, the water quality is good (best level).

Paths in the area of ​​the two lakes are:

• Circular hiking trail
• 828 Schafluckensteig past the Brunnkogel to the Hochleckenhaus , in the other direction via Lueg to the Gasthof Großalm on the Großalmstraße Altmünster - Steinbach am Attersee
• 832 to the Feuerkogel , in the other direction to the Hochsteinalm , crossing to Traunkirchen am Traunsee or Neukirchen / Altmünster
