Gosau Lakes
Gosau Lakes |
The Gosau Lakes are three lakes belonging to the Salzkammergut in the Gosau Valley in Upper Austria , Austria .
Vorderer and Hinterer Gosausee have practically no connection to each other. Both lakes are mainly fed by springs that come from the Dachstein glaciers below the water surface.
Geography and landscape
The Gosau lakes are located in a narrow V or Kerbtal northeast of the Gosaukamm mountain range , which has numerous climbing peaks with peaks such as Donnerkogel, Däumling or Bischofsmütze . The Dachstein massif rises in the southeast , from whose glaciers the lakes are mainly fed.
The striking valley is a rift valley that stretches to the Reisgang on the Hochkesselkopf and marks the boundary between the sedimentary limestone of the Dachstein and the reef limestone of the Gosaukamm . It is mainly forested, there are only a few alpine meadows on the lakes, but for the most part the banks drop quite steeply into the water.
All three lakes are nature reserves .
