The Egelsee and the adjacent Egelseemoor form a small lake with an upland moor in the municipality of Unterach in Upper Austria . They are located in the Attersee-Mondsee mountains on the western foothills of the Hochplett massif , on the left bank of the Attersee .

The Egelsee is about 150 m above the water level of the Attersee at 624 m above sea level. A. and has an underground drain to the Urfangbach , which flows into the lake in Stockwinkel . It is a Toteisloch that when after the last great ice age fen remains. The bank is a silting rocking grass remnant , a number of protected plants (including the sundew ) grow here.

The lake has been under nature protection since 1965 ( Egelsee nature reserve in Unterach , N019 ), and the surrounding moor has also been designated since May 31, 1995 (NSG Egelseemoor , N070 ). The lake has about 0.8 hectares , the reserve about 4 hectares around the lake.
