The Sommersbergsee (also Sommersberger See ) is a natural moor lake in the Styrian Salzkammergut in Austria .

geography

The Sommersbergsee is located about three kilometers northwest of Bad Aussee at the foot of the Sarstein between the Ischlkogl (977 m) and the Sommersbergkogl (1077 m) at an altitude of 856 meters in a boggy depression. It has an area of 2.2 hectares and a maximum depth of 24 meters. It is surrounded by meadows that turn into forests.

The lake was formed on the edge of Ice Age deposits. There is only temporarily a small above-ground inflow from a flat moor meadow to the north. The lake is drained via the Kirchlatzbach into the Koppentraun .

The lake takes its name from a farm to which it belongs.

Flora and fauna

The Sommersbergsee is a moor lake and is surrounded by an almost closed reed belt. He owns extensive water lily carpets . In addition to mussels and crabs, there are carp and char .

use

The hut on the lakeshore

The Sommersbergsee is surrounded by meadows. It heats up very quickly due to the high light absorption of the moor water. Up to 26 ° C can be reached in midsummer. The bathing area was managed by the city of Bad Aussee until May 2017, after which it was privately owned. The "Hut Sommersbergsee" on its shore provided a gastronomic offer.

The water quality was last (2013) rated with the highest level Excellent .

The lake also serves as a fishing spot. Diving is prohibited.

From the lake, a circular hiking trail leads around the Ischlkogl in about an hour, which allows a visit to the Bad Aussee Alpine Garden, founded in 1913, halfway through.

Ice skating and curling are practiced on the frozen lake in winter .

Others

In 2003, the Seer sang the carefree bathing life at the lake in the song “Sommersbergsee” on their CD “Aufwind”.
