The Taferlklaussee is located at the northern foot of the Höllengebirge in the municipality of Altmünster , in the Salzkammergut , Upper Austria.

The lake is located directly on the Großalm state road ( L544 , Altmünster - Steinbach am Attersee ). The lake has an area of about 1.5 hectares , is about 200 meters long and 120 meters wide, and is 763 m above sea level. A. Height.
History, water typology and nature conservation
The Taferlklause was built around 1716 when the Aurachbach had been dammed up in order to use it with the Klaus weir for the wood drift . The dam was not abandoned, but continued to be used as fishing waters. The lake with its shoreline is now a nature reserve ( N039 , 8.5095 ha). The clear water is of drinking water quality. The south bank is boggy and inaccessible, it is a small raised bog and a Grauerlenau .
Tourism and Customs
The lake can be reached from Altmünster am Traunsee by a three and a half hour hike, as can Seefeld or Steinbach am Attersee. There is a snack station at the Taferlklause. A well laid out hiking trail leads around the lake, it takes about half an hour to walk around the lake, with a constant view of the lake. Hiking trails lead from the Taferlklaussee car park to the Hochlecken and the Hochleckenhaus , to the Kienklause and on to the Attersee .
In the summer, each on August 15, one finds echo bubbles on Taferlklaussee instead, an old tradition in the Salzkammergut , in which several Wind Ensemble on the banks evocative ways taking advantage of the echo from the walls of the Herzogenaurach-origin blow. In winter you can go ice skating or curling on the lake.
