The Hintere Gosausee is a mountain lake in the Salzkammergut in the municipality of Gosau and is located at the head of the valley at 1154 m above sea level. A. Height. Most of it flows through a cave system into the Waldbach origin , the giant source of the Waldbach ; and over the Mühlbach into the Hallstätter See . Also to the sources of the Gosaubach in the Gosau valley, far below the lake front. Only during floods or when the snow melts in spring, next to the giant karst spring Launigg ( ⊙ ) u. a. a stream bed is active as an overflow, and fills the Gosaulacke.
At the southern end of the lake there is the Hohe Holzmeisteralm ( 1164 m above sea level ) , which is open in summer, and a hunting lodge.
