Surname

Seen from the Grünalmkogel over the Pfaffengraben , the summit is flat as part of the high plateau. Spielberg-Klapf on the right with its demolition.

Although this summit was called Spielberg in older maps , from the “Spielhahn”, ie the black grouse , the name Brunnkogel has become established. A fire in the summit region gave the name Brenta , from "to burn", and later Brunnkogel. The old name has been retained for its northern prowl ( Hoher Spielberg1584  m above sea level ), which, when viewed from the Langbathseen, dominates the east face.

There are two other Brunnkogel in the Höllengebirge, in the main ridge south of the Langbathseen  (1779 m) and on the southern roof  (1508 m). The name of the distillery can also be found in the name of the distiller above the Attersee.

Summit cross

Old summit cross with the professions

A first wooden cross was erected in the 1950s. In 1969 it was split and destroyed by a lightning strike.

The new 14 m high and 7 m wide cross was erected in September 1970 and is dedicated to the fallen and returnees of the Aurach Valley. The following professions were symbolically represented by the planner and initiator Ludwig Klausecker: doctor, constructor, locksmith, blacksmith, bricklayer, carpenter, forest worker, farmer and warrior. In winter 2012/13 the summit cross buckled due to the snow load. The workshop teacher at HTL-Vöcklabruck, J. Treml from Laakirchen, made an identical new summit cross together with his students, but with improved statics, which was erected in June 2013.
