The Graz Orpheum in the Lend district is historically one of the oldest event locations in Graz; It is housed in the building that replaced the Graz Varieté from 1899–1936 and next to the Schloßbergbühne casemates and the Dom im Berg , part of the Grazer Spielstätten GmbH founded in 2008 .

history

The Graz Orpheum was built in 1950 on the site of the Graz Varieté Orpheum , which was active from 1899 to 1936 and which was bombed in the Second World War , in order to create a new cabaret. Due to the lack of success, these plans were discarded and the building was incorporated into a large Graz cinema chain. In the 1960s and 1970s it was thematically redesigned into what is also called a “House of Youth”. Since the early 1990s, the Orpheum has been subordinate to the cultural office of the city of Graz.

The Orpheum with its two halls offers a very varied program of rock, pop and jazz concerts, cabaret and children's theater. Exhibitions complete the range of events.

The Orpheum in Graz is considered to be the 'birthplace' of Circus Roncalli . On October 8, 1975, Bernhard Paul and André Heller announced their joint project with a number of artists from or in front of a circus wagon parked on the Orpheum forecourt.
