Theater in the train station

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theater im Bahnhof is an off-theater group from Graz and by its own account the largest professional independent theater ensemble in Austria. It sees itself as “contemporary folk theater and has been dealing with Austrian identity between tradition and pop since its inception”.

Mainly self-developed pieces are played, which have only marginally to do with the conventional concept of theater. Improvisation is also of great importance - one of the most popular shows is the weekly improvisation format “Monday” (formerly: “Sport am Montag”). Part of the concept is also the use of unusual locations, for example an outdoor production for the Styrian autumn 2007 was played on the Reininghaus grounds in Graz- Eggenberg . Other venues were a waterworks, a dog park, the interior of the Grazer Schloßberg or the LKH Graz . Since 2007, regular performances have also taken place there in cooperation with the Schauspielhaus Graz . Many of the pieces have a strong connection to Graz and the surrounding area (“Sound of Seiersberg ”, “Arland Mysteries”, “ Gries Connection”, “Teacher's Room 8020”, “Geidorf's Eleven”).
