Seiersberg was a municipality with 7865 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) southwest of Graz in the Graz-Umgebung district in Styria . Since 2015 it has been merged with the municipality of Pirka as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform . The resulting new community bears the name Seiersberg-Pirka .

Geographical location

Seiersberg is located southwest of the provincial capital Graz and has grown together structurally. The area is located in the Graz Basin in western Styria .

The community of Seiersberg consisted of the districts Seiersberg, Neuseiersberg, Gedersberg and Mantscha. Seiersberg and Neuseiersberg are only separated by the Pyhrnautobahn A 9.

The small village of Seiersberg has become a modern place in the last decades of the 20th century , which mainly serves as a residential area for the neighboring Graz, but can also have commercial and commercial operations.

Culture and sights

Buildings

  • The Greithjosel Chapel is over 160 years old and is privately owned. At the place where the chapel was built, there was once a fatal argument. In 1996 the chapel was renovated by the Seiersberg Beautification Association.
  • The Weimoar Cross was erected in 1840 and inaugurated in 1909. The reason for its construction is unknown.
  • The Gedersberg Chapel is privately owned and was built in the post-war period after the cross that previously stood on this site was destroyed in 1944. It should be emphasized that Maria Rauch has prayed the rosary on Saturdays since 1936.

Sports

From 2003 to 2006 the ATP -TennisMasters from Graz took place in the Shopping City Seiersberg . In summer 2007 the event took place for the first time on the Reininghaus grounds in Graz.

Street

The Pyhrn Autobahn A 9 runs directly through Seiersberg and is accessible via the Seiersberg junction (188). This takes you quickly to the Graz-Webling junction and further to the city center of Graz and - in the opposite direction - to the south A 2 motorway .

Packer Straße B 70 runs through the area from Graz to Klagenfurt . The Grazer Straße B 67 from Graz to Leibnitz is about three kilometers away.

Public transportation

Two railway lines run through the area. The Südbahn can be accessed via the Feldkirchen -Seiersberg stop, which was opened on December 11, 2005 , and offers hourly S-Bahn connections to Graz and Spielfeld-Straß . The Graz-Köflacher railway line (GKB) does not have a train station in the municipality, but the Straßgang train station is in the immediate vicinity. There are hourly S-Bahn connections to Graz, Köflach and Wies - Eibiswald .

Bus routes 32 operated by Graz AG Verkehrsbetriebe and bus route 78, which was financed by the municipality of Seiersberg, go to and through Seiersberg and thus enable a connection to the nearby provincial capital of Graz. Line 78 connects the Gedersberg district with the Puntigam local transport hub.

Airport

The Graz Airport is about eight kilometers away and the Pyhrnautobahn reach.

Established businesses

The second largest shopping center in Austria, the Shopping City Seiersberg, is located in Seiersberg .

Public facilities

There is also an old people's home at the community center with elementary school and community office. The district police station for the Graz area and a police station are also established at this location . There are also:

From 1995 to 2012 Werner Breithuber (SPÖ) was mayor, 1st Vice Mayor since 1995 Franz Ragger (SPÖ), 2nd Vice Mayor since 2000 Günter Grain (UBS). After Werner Breithuber resigned in 2012, Werner Baumann was unanimously elected as mayor by the local council.
