Seiersberg-Pirka is a municipality with 11,408 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) and after Gratwein-Straßengel the second largest municipality in the Graz-Umgebung district in Styria . It was created in the course of the Styrian municipal structural reform on January 1, 2015 by merging the formerly independent municipalities of Seiersberg and Pirka .

geography

Geographical location

The community is located southwest of the provincial capital Graz and has grown together with it. The community is largely located in the flat Graz Basin , at the northern end of the Kaiserwald , in western Styria . The most important rivers are the Gepringbach and the Doblbach on the western edge of the municipality.

Economy and Infrastructure

Due to its proximity to Graz, Seiersberg-Pirka is one of the richest communities in Austria. Shopping City Seiersberg , the second largest shopping center in Austria, and a large number of commercial zones are located in the municipality .

traffic

  • Road: The community is connected to the Pyhrn Autobahn A 9 via the Seiersberg junction.
  • Bus: In addition, the community is connected to the Graz-Köflacher Bahn and bus company and the Graz Holding (GVB).
  • Train: There is only one train station right next door in Graz's 16th district of Straßgang . The construction of our own stop is a long time coming, but the topic will be dealt with in the local council .

Both previous municipalities had a municipality coat of arms. Due to the amalgamation of municipalities, these lost their official validity on January 1st, 2015. The new award of the municipal coat of arms for the merged municipality took effect on September 23, 2016
The blazon reads:

"In a squared shield hanging from a black vine in silver at the top right, a blue, green-leafed bunch of grapes, at the top left in green the silver crook of a bishop's staff growing obliquely from the dividing line, at the bottom right in red growing out of the gap a silver twelve-spoke wagon wheel, at the bottom left in."
