Edelsgrub is a former municipality with 675 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Styria . Since January 1, 2015 it has been a cadastral parish of the political municipality of Nestelbach near Graz .
geography
Edelsgrub is located about ten kilometers east of the provincial capital Graz in the Graz-Umgebung district at the entrance to Eastern Styria in the Austrian state of Styria . The Stiefing rises in Edelsgrub and crosses the former municipal area from north to south.
history
The place is first mentioned in 1406 as Nesengrub . The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
On January 1, 2015, Edelsgrub was merged with the communities of Nestelbach near Graz and Langegg near Graz as part of the Styrian community structural reform , the new community is called "Nestelbach near Graz".
Religions
The cadastral parish belongs entirely to the parish Nestelbach near Graz.
politics
The last mayor of the municipality, which was independent until 2014, was Gerhard Fuchs. After the 2010 elections, the municipal council was composed as follows:

coat of arms
The municipal coat of arms was awarded with effect from April 1, 1990.
Blazon (coat of arms description):
- "In black a golden apple tree in the shape of a tree of life, covered by a golden bar, inside a bar of two rows of red roof tiles rounded at the bottom."
After the amalgamation of the municipalities, the coat of arms of Edelsgrub expired.
Economy and Infrastructure
The place has a rural structure and is geared purely to housing and agriculture.
traffic
Edelsgrub is located off the main roads, but they can still be reached quickly. The south autobahn A2 is accessible in about four kilometers via the junction Laßnitzhöhe (169). The Unterkirchbacherstraße B 73 is about eight kilometers away on the neighboring community Empersdorf reach.
There is no train station in town. The closest station of the Styrian East Railway is in Laßnitzhöhe, approx. 6 km away. The Graz Airport is about 15 km away.
Sports
- The football club "OG-Edelsgrub" (local group Edelsgrub) was founded in 1985 by some football-loving residents of the communities Edelsgrub, Vasoldsberg and Nestelbach.
- One year later, the founding chairman Wolfgang Wilfling passed the fate of the club on to Josef Schaller, who formed the OG-Edelsgrub as a respectable amateur football team until 1996. Günther Wilfling has headed the association as chairman since 1996.
In addition to the sporting activities, the club organizes an annual penalty and soccer tournament on the sports field in Edelsgrub. The OG-Edelsgrub currently has 35 members.
- The Edelsgrub leisure club deals with motorsport. The chairman is the well-known mountain rally driver Ewald Scherr.
