The Doblbach (formerly Tobelbach ) is a left bank tributary of the Kainach in the Austrian state of Styria . The brook rises west of Graz and flows into the Kainach after 16 km at Dobl .

course

The stream rises in the Doblwald south-east of Steinberg in the municipality of Thal not far from the construction waste dump . It flows through the Angergraben in a south-easterly direction and takes on several small feeders on the left bank. The largely natural stream then runs between Mitterriegel and Höchstriegel and passes the village of Mantscha . After the Riederhof settlement, the Förstlbach, the largest left tributary, flows into the Doblbach. At around 7.3 km the brook crosses a retention basin and takes in the more than 6 km long Lonkesbach on the right in the Tobelbadtal district. After the Tobelbad community center , the Doblbach runs through a wide valley in the Kaiserwald and touches the Doblwiesen wetland biotope ( NSG c 78 ). After crossing under the routes of the GKB and Süd Autobahn (A 2) , the now straightened brook reaches Dobl and flows south of the town center into the Kainach .

Flood protection

Drainage structure of the RHB Doblbach

In the past, the Doblbach repeatedly caused flooding in the community of Haselsdorf-Tobelbad , for example in the 1990s and in the summer of 2005. In August of that year alone, damage to 33 properties in the cadastral communities of Tobelbad, Seiersberg and Pirka , and the compensation payments required a total of 160,000 euros.

The municipality of Haselsdorf-Tobelbad therefore had a retention basin built in 2006/07 . The water and nature conservation law approval was granted in September 1999, the groundbreaking in February 2006. In between, 190,000 euros had to be spent on land redemption and compensation for basic use. The building was officially opened in April 2008. It consists of an approximately 10 m high, homogeneous earth wall with a crown length of around 240 m, which ensures a retention volume of 250,000 m³ and guarantees protection against a 30- year flood (HQ 30 ). The bottom outlet is an approximately 30 m long, covered concrete structure with a box cross-section and an open inlet and outlet area, which allows fish and other aquatic animals to migrate. The construction costs amounted to one million euros .

The flood discharge volumes at the confluence with the Kainach were modeled by the Ministry for a Livable Austria at 23 (HQ 30 ), 35 (HQ 100 ) and 67 m³ / s (HQ 300 ).
