history
As early as 1491, a spa in the area of today's Tobelbad is mentioned. The local community Haselsdorf was established as an autonomous body in 1850. The spa in Tobelbad ended in 1938.
During his trip on foot through Austria in the summer of 1825, Joseph Kyselak describes the village "Doppelbad" as follows:
"... if you look at it enough, you can safely venture into the dark forest, through which a good road leads the pilgrim to Doppelbad in an hour. This little village, consisting of nine houses, which a bathing spring acquired its origin and name, unsightly and hidden as it is in a forest basin, is said to have a special effect on the sick; But I could not find out whether this consisted of a wonderful increase in the disease substance or an early death? The former may at least be consolation for the infirm until sadness, as a natural consequence of this tormenting place of residence, draws in on the latter. In the meantime, women who complain of sterility should use this bath as a remedy. The forest still lasts for a while, then fertile cornfields emerge ... "
After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community became part of the Reichsgau Steiermark, from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. Since 1983 the community has been called "Haselsdorf-Tobelbad".
