Weinitzen is a municipality with 2670 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) north of Graz in Styria in the Graz-Umgebung district .

Geographical location
Weinitzen is located directly north of the provincial capital Graz in the Grazer Bergland . The Schöcklbach, a left tributary of the Mur, flows through the community . The Schöckl itself is not located in the municipality.
Community structure
The municipality includes the following four localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Foelling (363)
- Niederschöckl (1243) including Am Waldgrund, Bleiütten, Haidegg, Höf, Nadisch and Sankt Josef
- Oberschöckl (805) including Mölten and Weinberg
- Weinitzen (259) including Annengraben and Zösenberg
The community consists of the three cadastral communities Fölling, Niederschöckl and Weinitzen.

history
The municipality in its current form has existed since 1938, when parts of the municipality were incorporated into Graz.
Place name
In 1572 a forest near the Sankt Ulrich Church is mentioned as "in the Weinitzen". The name of the later local community goes back to this. The name goes back to the Slovenian vinica (vineyard). In the east there is the corridor Weinberg, where viticulture was still practiced until the 19th century.
The first census was carried out in 1754.

Buildings
- The weather tower in the district of Niederschöckl is the middle one between the also bricked weather tower Rinnegg (municipality of Sankt Radegund) and the wooden one on the Schaftalberg (municipality of Kainbach near Graz ). At almost the same distance from each other, they are in an almost straight line. The year 1824, engraved in the crossbar of the cross on the tent roof of the 15 m high weather tower, is its year of construction. In 1981 the weather tower was renovated. Today the bells of the tower herald joyful events such as births or weddings.
- There is a plague cross in the municipality .
Natural monuments
The barrows in the district of Niederschöckl bear witness to the Norico-Roman settlement in what is now the municipality.

Weinitzen is located on the main road from Graz to Sankt Radegund bei Graz in the Schöckl recreation area. The Pyhrn Autobahn A 9 is about ten kilometers away and can be reached via the Gratkorn junction (173). The Weiz Street B 72 from Graz to Weiz is about four kilometers away. There is no train station in Weinitzen. The central station Graz is about ten kilometers away. The distance to Graz Airport is approx. 20 km.
The waste water of the municipality are in the water treatment plant of the city of Graz in Gössendorf cleaned and then the Mur fed.

coat of arms
With effect from September 1, 1979 Weinitzen received the right to use its own coat of arms.
Blazon :
- "In the silver shield there is a triple barbless red tang, from whose hook, curved to the right, a stalked red grape leaf grows outward."
The coat of arms was designed by Heinrich Purkarthofer, senior archivist Steiermärkisches Landesarchiv in Graz.
