Jules Guiffrey

Jules-Joseph Guiffrey (born November 29, 1840 in Paris , † November 26, 1918 there ) was a French art historian .

Life

Guiffrey studied law and palaeography , acquired the academic degree of a Licencié and got a job in the archives service, initially at the Ministry of Finance, from 1866 as administrator in the Archives nationales . In 1893 Guiffrey was appointed director of the Mobilier national . As such, Guiffrey published a new edition of the catalogs of the old art exhibitions (1673-1800) of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture in 42 volumes in the years 1869 to 1872 .

Guiffrey was mainly concerned with tapestries and French art of the 17th and 18th centuries .
