Großstübing is a cadastral community and part of the market community Deutschfeistritz with 352 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in Styria in the Graz-Umgebung district . Großstübing was an independent municipality until January 1, 2015 and was merged with the municipality of Deutschfeistritz as part of the Styrian municipal structural reform.

Geographical location

Großstübing is located about 20 km northwest of the provincial capital Graz in the Stübinggraben , a side valley of the Mur valley . The community is surrounded by mountains over 1,000 m high: the Mühlbacher Kogel (1050 m) in the southeast and the Bamederkogel (1160 m), the Schererkogel (1208 m) and the Pammeggkogel (1090 m) in the west.

As part of the structural reform of the Styrian community , the community of Großstübing was merged with the market community of Deutschfeistritz on January 1, 2015.

history

Hundsdorf is mentioned in a document in 1278. The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to the Reichsgau Steiermark, 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

Economy and Infrastructure

Großstübing is off the main roads. These can be reached out of the valley via the neighboring municipality of Deutschfeistritz in about 10 km: the Pyhrn Autobahn A 9 via the Deutschfeistritz junction (exit 165), the Bruck expressway S 35 and the Grazer Straße B 67.

The closest train station in Stübing is about 8 km away in Kleinstübing and offers access to the Austrian Southern Railway with hourly S-Bahn connections to Graz and Bruck an der Mur .

The Graz Airport is about 40 km away.
