Kleinstübing is a place in Styria and belongs to the market town of Deutschfeistritz . The place, especially known for the Austrian open-air museum located here, is located around 17 km north of the Styrian capital Graz .
Surname
The place name Stübing comes from the Slavic (originally mentioned in 1147 as Stubenik). Stubenik means (this meant the Stübingbach) - * stub'nik (a) roughly "Brunnbach".
history
The area of the Middle Mur valley has been permanently settled since the Bronze Age. Excavations in the area of the SOS Children's Village and the Kleinstübing volunteer fire brigade brought archaeological finds to light. Numerous archaeological finds have also been made in Kleinstübing from the time of the Roman settlement of Styria. So-called hypocausts were found during road construction work in the area of Landesstraße 334 . This installation of Roman underfloor heating suggests a large Roman villa or an important country estate.
During the construction of the southern runway in the area of the Mur in Kleinstübing in 1843 a tombstone of the important Atii family was found.
The Stübing castle was probably built as a fortification for the 1120th When the first fort was built, it was probably a permanent house with a wall and a moat, but without a keep. It appears for the first time in 1130 with Bernehart de Stubenic. The gentlemen from Stübing were completely free. First mentioned owner Bero / Bernehart / Bernhard von Stübing from the family of the full free von Stübing , who had the castle built on the Graz Schloßberg . He was the father of Konrad Henne von Feistritz, the owner of the Henneberg / Himberg fortress in Deutschfeistritz .
Their successors, who also named themselves after the castle, were already ministerials to the sovereign. After 1249 this family also died out. At the beginning of the 14th century the fortifications came to the Gradner family. She was followed by Erasmus Steinwald von Fladnitz, who bequeathed Stübing to his grandson Georg Breuner.
This was enfeoffed in 1417 by the sovereign with the rule. Breuner had the already badly dilapidated farm rebuilt. During the Hungarian War Jörg Breuner sided with Matthias Corvinus, so that in 1480 he had to be forced to obey by Emperor Friedrich III. But Stübing stayed with his family. The residence was greatly expanded under the Breuners.
It was in its heyday then. Philipp Breuner in particular had a splendid lifestyle here. Shortly before his death he took part in a tournament of Emperor Maximillians I in Vienna.
Maximilian Breuner had to leave the country as a Protestant. He sold Stübing in 1630 to Georg Amelreich von Eibiswald. It was acquired by Johann Anton Fürst von Eggenberg in 1635. After the death of the last prince, Stübing, which was united with the Waldstein lordship, came to Johann Wilhelm Graf Sinzendorf through the marriage of Josefa Maria Fürstin von Eggenberg in 1717. The then castle keep (synonymous with the property) of the rule reached from the Reiner Landgerichtskreuz on the road to Gratwein to the Königgraben. Gotfried Graf Dietrichstein bought it in 1730. During the Dietrichstein rule, the building was not maintained and fell into disrepair. In 1863 Stübing came to Count Wilhelm Palffy-Daun from Erdöd. It was he who gave the castle a completely new look by rebuilding it in the Windsor style.
In 1959, Dr. Franz Fattinger owner. He ran a model farm here. In 1960 the castle was handed over to the SOS Children's Village. During the subsequent renovation, it was changed in a simplistic way. Since then, the administration of the children's village has been housed there.
Parts of Kleinstübing were the Rein tributary. Hence the name Kleinstübing and Großstübing . Kleinstübing (Stibing superior), which today has significantly more inhabitants than Großstübing, had farms that were less subject to interest at that time.
