Culture and sights
Buildings
The Plankenwarth Castle , a former castle, is worth seeing . It was first mentioned in a document in 1179. The castle served to protect a traffic route between the Liebochtal and the Murtal . In the east there is a medieval keep with 3-meter-thick walls, in the north and east there are round towers . The columned arcade courtyard dates from the late Renaissance . In 1656 the fortified castle was converted into a residential palace.
The castle is now privately owned by a family of lawyers from Graz who bought it in 1981 in a desolate condition and renovated and revitalized it in the following years. There is a small church in the main wing of the castle, which is why weddings or baptisms are also celebrated at Plankenwarth Castle.
Until 1860, in addition to Plankenwarth Castle, there was also the older Altenhofen Castle in Sankt Oswald , which was demolished due to its dilapidation.
