Mathilde Uhlirz (born April 24, 1881 in Vienna , † April 20, 1966 in Graz ) was an Austrian historian of medieval history.

Mathilde Uhlirz was the daughter of the historian Karl Uhlirz . Her father came from a family of officers and her mother from Viennese banking circles. Uhlirz studied in Vienna and Graz and had been a high school teacher in Graz since 1909. She received her doctorate in 1913 with the work The Genesis of the Four Prague Articles . In 1916 she was the first woman in Austria to apply for admission to the habilitation. The habilitation application was rejected due to the negative attitude of the habilitation committee towards women at the university. In 1916 she began studying classical philology. In 1918 she passed the teaching examination for Latin as a major. In 1922 she got a job as a teacher. In 1932 she qualified as a professor for Austrian and Medieval History at the University of Graz. In 1932 and 1945 she taught at the University of Graz and was appointed professor of general history of the Middle Ages there in 1939. But she held only a few events on the history of the Middle Ages. Rather, Uhlirz taught the history of the First and Second World Wars. She was linked to National Socialism through clear political statements. The "Yearbooks of the German Empire" on Otto III. and the “Regests of the Empire under Otto III” are fundamental to Otton research to this day due to their extensive knowledge of sources .
