Walter Höflechner

Walter Höflechner (born October 23, 1943 in Cilli , Slovenia ) is an Austrian historian .

Live and act

Walter Höflechner studied history at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz from 1962 to 1967 and completed an apprenticeship at the Institute for Austrian Historical Research at the University of Vienna from 1965 to 1968 . In 1968 he became sub auspiciis praesidentis to Dr. phil. PhD . From 1968 to 1977 he was university assistant at the Institute for History at the University of Graz and in 1968 he was commissioned to set up the university archive. In 1974 he completed his habilitation in Austrian history at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Graz. In 1977 he became associate professor and from 1998 professor for Austrian history at the Institute for History at the University of Graz.

In 1980 he was a co-founder of the Austrian Society for the History of Science and from 1981 a member of the State Historical Commission for Styria .

From 1983 to 1992 he was head of the university archive as well as editor and later editor of the publications from the archive of the University of Graz and from 1983 to 2001 Harry Kühnel was chairman of the section for scientific and cultural history of the Austrian Historians' Day . In 1988 he became the first curator of the David Herzog Fund at the University of Graz.

In 1993 he started working with the University of Shkodra in Albania , which made him Professor honoris causa in 1995 and an honorary doctorate in 2002 .

In 1995 he was a founding member of the Society for the History of University and Science and became a member of the International Commission for University History . In 1999 he became a member of a task force of the European Rectors' Conference for the University of Pristina .

From 1999 to 2004 he was dean of the humanities faculty at the University of Graz.
