Hans von Zwiedineck-Suedhorst

Johann Alois Zwiedineck , from 1854 Zwiedineck Edler von Südhorst , (also von Zwiedineck-Südhorst ; born April 14, 1845 in Frankfurt am Main , † November 22, 1906 in Graz ) was an Austrian historian and professor of history .

Life

Zwiedineck-Südhorst was the son of the Austrian artillery - Colonel Ferdinand Zwiedinek Edler von Südhorst (1791–1872) and studied history at the University of Graz after graduating from high school . He then got his first job at the Styrian regional library and then at the regional high school in Graz. In 1875 Zwiedineck completed his habilitation as a lecturer in history at the University of Graz. In 1880 he was appointed director of the Styrian State Library and in 1885 appointed associate professor . From 1899 he was full professor in Graz.

In addition to the publication of several historical works, he was also the author of several articles in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie .

Zwiedineck-Südhorst was a founder of the Academic Corps Teutonia zu Graz (1863) and the Corps Vandalia Graz (1864). The Corps Saxonia Vienna awarded him the ribbon in 1899 . In 1892 he initiated the founding of the State Historical Commission for Styria and acted as executive secretary until 1906. From 1895 to 1896 he was the first chairman of the Association of Historians after it was founded.

Otto von Zwiedineck-Südhorst was a son.
